Hello.

Hello, how are you?

Bonzo and I are in the stages of moving, we are heading off to the wonders of Tumblr. We think it will give us better mobile access which means that you might actually hear from us once in a while, especially Bonzo.

We will move our URL blog.bonzobonzo.co.uk over there at some point, but for the time being please head to bonzobonzo.tumblr.com to find our new posts.

See you all soon!

Summer.

FEEL IT ALL AROUND from Northern Lights on Vimeo.

I was sent a link to this lovely video by a friend and thought I'd share. It's shot on a Canon 5D Mark II with underwater housing. All holiday videos should look like this!

Warning. Black and White.

I've been very busy recently, printing away in the black and white darkroom and have just finished churning out 42 hand prints. So it's great to see my black and white world has continued with Fever Ray's newest video to the fantastic Keep The Streets Empty. I can't wait to see Karin and co at the last concert next month. And make sure you look at the other videos too. There are quite a few now...

Motherland.

I've been a big fan of Simon Robert's book 'Motherland' for a very long time, so was very happy when he came to talk this past week at Farnham as part of a study day titled 'Eastern Europe: What Is It' that was organised by Maria Kapajeva. Simon is a great speaker, and as I have said before photographer's need to be more articulate, the talk veered a bit off topic to his project 'We English' but gave a great insight to his way of making work and the influences of Chris Boot.

Maria also has a solo show opening in her home country of Estonia this week and is part of New Creatives at Fairfields in Basinstoke which opens this week also. I was in the darkroom whilst she was printing her final images and helped her wrap them up for transit to Estonia, they are beautiful images, she is an extremely talented black and white printer. Go and have a look!

The Lichen Factor.

I met up with my good friend Laura Hensser on Friday and we wandered about London to have some great coffee at The Nordic Cafe, have a peek at the Marmite Shop and find some galleries.

Laura took me to the Julian Grater show at Sarah Myerscough Gallery which was beautiful, it's a series of paintings made during residencies in northern Canada and looks at the uncertainty of the Arctics' natural phenomena. The textures that Grater creates on these huge scale oil paintings are incredible, they really attempt to make the experience tangible. We also stopped by Roger Ballen's show at Hamitons gallery. I was introduced to Ballen's work, via one of his Phaidon published books, only this week so it was an incredible experience to jump into his world so soon via this show. I still don't know what to think yet, I'm still thinking it over but the grimey textures and tones of the beautiful Black and White prints was a bit of a revelation. Check it out. We also bumped into Candida Hofer and Bridget Riley shows, both of which were a bit of a disappointment. But did return to see Ed Ruscha's On The Road book at The Gagosian, it's just as good the second time!

Japanese.

The new issue of Photoworks is out and I highly recommend you run down to Borders, Permananet Gallery, Tate Modern or anywhere else to find yourself a copy. The new issue is co-edited by Jason Evans and focuses on Japanese Photography. I helped do some rough scans for the issue and as such got to see all of the books, the magazine doesn't quite do Winter's Tale justice so make sure you check that out for yourself too! The issue also brings together many of the talented tutors/photographers and writers that taught me as well as a few friends, so run down and find out what this Japanese photography thing is all about!

PS make sure you check out Ariko's website aarriikkoo.com, Sol is beautiful!

Along Some Rivers.

I've been introduced to Robert Adams' writing at last and don't know how I managed before. More Photographers need to be as clear, eloquent and direct in their descriptions of their own work and practice and thoughts on photography. Next up is 'Why People Photograph' and I can't wait!
